Through the Sparks’s Bio
Through the Sparks are Birmingham AL-based. Their Southern roots show in the soul, gothic sensibilities and love of harmonies and marshy bogs that pervade the music. Their latest record, 3 years in the making, Worm Moon Waning is out in March 2010 (Skybucket Records).
The 2007 Lazarus Beach (Skybucket Records), moves triumphantly into avant garde full-on pop music, with noise, horn, big harmony choruses, pedal steel, ukulele, honky-tonk piano, and funeral home organ.
Featuring members from Stateside and The Dexateens and headed by Jody Nelson (producer, John Strohm, Duquette Johnston), the band of childhood friends taught themselves to play music together in high school, when "Blues Before Sunrise," the Band, the Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd, ELO, and Neil Young fueled their Canadian whiskey-swilling sing-alongs in the Alabama kitchens.
"Lazarus Beach is a sophisticated sprawl of sound and songs, with elements of power pop, 70s singer/songwriter, prog, indie guitar rock, and even some smooth southern soul." - Pitchfork
