Shelley’s Bio
Shelley returned to her hometown of Portland OR after spending 2 years in Chicago and Los Angeles in support of her highly praised cd, Captain Wild Horse (Rides the Heart of Tomorrow).
Shelley released Water For the Day, her 2nd full-length on Hush Records in spring 2008. Spare, haunting & sometimes sorrowful, Shelley's voice is the centerpiece. She's accompanied by Rachel Blumberg (M Ward, Bright Eyes, Decemberists) on drums, Tiffany Kowalski (Bright Eyes) on violin, Gary James (All Smiles) on bass, and Alexis Gideon on guitar.
Shelley has been onstage with Loudon Wainwright III, Tom Brosseau, Nate Query (Decemberists) and Rachel Blumberg (Norfolk & Western/Decemberists) and Alexis Gideon.
“There’s a small contingent of singer-songwriters who are quietly saving country music, and Shelley Short is one of them…..Short encapsulates much of what makes old-school Nashville country great: a showman’s charisma (think Dolly), credible melancholy (think Patsy).” - Willamette Weekly
