The Great American Folk Show®, hosted by Tom Brosseau, on Prairie Public Radio ended its wonderful 6 year broadcasting run on Saturday, August 29th. We are so grateful to the hundreds of amazing talented artists, makers, writers, café proprietors, chefs, poets, dreamers, and good folk who graced our show with their words and music. A wide open expansive North Dakota thank you to producer Erik Deatherage, editor Elizabeth Brosseau, web guru Christine McClellan, radio director emeritus Bill Thomas, and especially to Tom Brosseau for creating, writing, and hosting 182 episodes! Our final Great American Folk Show broadcast on August 29: Jason Mraz with the story of his new album title, Grandma’s Gospel Favorites, and two live performances from the album, recorded especially for the GAFS audience. Plus Jude, who cut his teeth at the famed LA club Largo, plays “George” and an unreleased verse from one of host Tom Brosseau’s favorite tracks, “Taking More, Giving Less.” And, two-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year Bronwyn performs her song “Flower Child,” recorded just for the show. To close this penultimate show, San Diego’s very own, treasured songwriter Gregory Page, along with North Dakota musical icon Misti Koop, bring the hour to a close.

The show, hosted by Tom Brosseau, debuted as a monthly on Sunday, May 3rd, 2020 on Prairie Public Radio & went weekly in March 2022. Listen to archived episodes online and podcasts here. During the summer, Tom hosted The Great American Folk Show from beautiful Medora, ND.

Tom Brosseau has been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered, Weekend Edition & First Listen, Cerys Matthews’ BBC6 show; his songs included in Judd Apatow’s Netflix series Love, and in the Showtime series, Shameless.

John Parish (PJ Harvey) produced Brosseau’s 2015 Perfect Abandon, recorded live to one mic for Brosseau and his 3-piece combo. Brosseau and Sean Watkins collaborated on two albums - Grass Punks (2014) and North Dakota Impressions (2016).

Tom and Sean recorded In The Shadow Of The Hill, an album of seldom-heard handpicked songs that Tom culled from the entire Carter Family catalogue.

Tom Brosseau compiled 3 albums of previously unreleased catalogue spanning 2001 to 2021. Radio, album outtakes, demos, collaborations, and other rare recordings, including live on Doug Schulkind’s visionary WFMU show Give The Drummer Some, recorded in 2004 and 2006.
